  Here at Sink or Swim Tattoo, we take pride in our jewelry being safe for the body. All the jewelry that we carry in house is either Implant Certified Titanium (ASTM F-136), 18k and 14k gold or Niobium.   

This means that our jewelry is designed to minimize the risk of allergic reactions, skin irritation, and other adverse effects. Our commitment to using only the highest-quality materials ensures that our clients can enjoy their body jewelry with confidence, knowing that their health and safety are our top priority.

 Some benefits of Implant Grade Titanium are its bio-compatibility and its corrosion resistance.    

Bio-compatibility refers to the ability of a material to interact with the human body without causing an adverse reaction. Implant Grade Titanium is bio-compatible, which means that it is safe to use in the human body and less likely to cause allergic reactions. This metal is a perfect choice for people who are concerned about nickel sensitivities.   

Implant Grade Titanium is highly resistant to corrosion, which means it won’t rust or corrode when exposed to body fluids like sweat or other elements. This makes Implant Grade Titanium a perfect choice for body jewelry since it will last longer and maintain its appearance over time. 

  Gold is classified in the Karat system which indicates its purity. It is normally abbreviated as “K” or “kt” and is expressed as a percentage or a fraction of 24 parts. 

24K gold is pure gold, meaning 100% gold and no other metals mixed in. This is the highest karat of gold you can get. 

18K gold is 75% gold and 25% other metals, such as copper and silver.

14K gold is 58.3% and 41.7% other metals.

10K gold is 41.7% gold and 58.3% other metals. 

The higher the karat the purer the gold. However, this does not mean that higher karat jewelry is the best choice for body jewelry. 24K gold may be the purest gold, but it is also the softest gold. This makes 24K gold not suitable for daily wear. Gold is mixed with other metals to make it strong enough to be made into jewelry and hold up to daily wear and tear. If we take 14K and 18K gold, it is a lot more durable than the 24K. 14K and 18K Gold is often used for engagement rings and other types of fine jewelry.  

Gold plated, gold-filled, or gold overlay/vermeil jewelry should be avoided, especially in fresh piercings. The gold surface can wear or chip off and can cause irritations in our new piercings.
